Farmington Hills Mayor Theresa Rich is a mother, advocate, educator, entrepreneur, and community leader who has dedicated her life to service above self.
Following a thirty-year career in the automotive industry, where her roles ranged from tax lawyer to leading international seminars, Theresa has served our community on Farmington Hills City Council, the Oakland Schools Board of Education, and various boards and commissions at the local, state, and national levels. Theresa also serves on the faculty of the Wayne State University Mike Ilitch School of Business and is a proud American Federation of Teachers union member.
Theresa and her husband Brian have lived in Farmington Hills for over 30 years and own a local business, RichLaw, PLLC. They are proud to have raised their two children, former Farmington Public Schools trustee Zachary Rich and Alyson Rich, M.D., in our city.
Theresa is running for re-election to continue working hard for us and leading with joy, optimism, and resilience. She is committed to delivering impactful results for our community. Top accomplishments include:
• Securing free breakfast and lunch for 1.4 million Michigan children.
• Welcoming new businesses and job creators, including Comerica’s new HQ and 2,000 employees.
• Supporting our veterans and paving the way for American Legion Post 346 to relocate to Farmington Hills.
• Building community and inclusivity by diversifying city boards and commissions to bring new voices into local government.
• Spurring growth by promoting public art and reimagining the long neglected Grand River Corridor.
• Affirming Farmington Hills as a destination, through development of a Medical Mile on Northwestern Highway.
For over two decades,
Theresa has gotten results locally:
Farmington Hills City Council – Driving force behind the expansion of task force focused on preventing and addressing domestic violence, the first of its kind in the state and a pilot for other communities in the region.
Oakland Schools Board of Education – Has served as officer of Oakland Schools for over a decade, ensuring taxpayer dollars are used effectively and efficiently for Intermediate School District serving over 200,000 students in 28 school districts.
Commission on Children, Youth & Families – Led strategic planning initiative to improve lives of local children, youth and families.
S.A.V.E Task Force (Serving Adults who are Vulnerable and/or Elderly) – Serves as chair of task force focused on increasing awareness and addressing elder abuse in cross-disciplinary partnership, including Oakland County Circuit Court and the Prosecutor’s Office.
Farmington Area Arts Commission – Tasked with enhancing culture and art in the Greater Farmington community.
Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan Advisory Council – Providing insights to help equip girls with tools and resources to grow into young women of courage, confidence, and character.
Greater Detroit Agency for the Blind & Visually Impaired – Past President of Board of Trustees of organization focused on assisting those who lose vision; recognized as Crain's Detroit Business "Best Run Non-Profit under $5 million.”
Heritage Hills Homeowners' Association – Steered effort to secure community funding for successful building of a playground.
Farmington Hills/Farmington Foundation for Youth and Families – Board member of local nonprofit dedicated to enriching the lives of young people and families in our community.
Committee to Increase Voter Participation – Appointed by mayor to improve voter participation in all elections and increase the quality and quantity of publicity and information regarding such elections.
American Rosie the Riveter Association (ARRA), Willow Run Chapter - Volunteer helping recognize and preserve the history and legacy of working women during World War II.
As Mayor, Theresa has taken great time, attention, and care to fulfill her campaign promise of making FH even more of a destination, while promoting joy, optimism, and resilience.

Finalizing the city's Master Plan to aid development
Welcoming new businesses and relocating businesses, including 2000 employees when Comerica opened its HQ
Commissioning studies of the Grand River Corridor and Orchard Lake/12 Mile Rd Corridor to find ideas to reimagine those areas
Diversifying our boards and commissions through nearly 40 appointments representing broad backgrounds and life experiences, bringing new voices to local government
Supporting our veterans by bringing the American Legion Hall to our community
Bringing to FH a Visit Detroit On the Clock event as part of the NFL Draft!
Bringing the State of the County here, establishing the city as a destination
Attending well over 200 community events, fostering trust between residents and local government
